By Beth Jolley – Class of 2017
I’ve walked the wards
a service girl
With coffee burns
lost in the whirl
I’ve walked the wards
with little thought
Of damaged souls
in chaos caught
I’ve walked the wards
unsure but keen
more sound and sure
than I have been
I’ve walked the wards
like they have done
engulfed by fear
of end, begun
I’ve walked the wards
an empty shell
engulfed at last
in that pure hell
I’ve walked the wards
and you will too
as a healer
and with death’s due
We’ll walk the wards
in different roles
Led swiftly on
by that day’s tolls
